April winter blast stings more than 40M across Plains, Midwest and Northeast, following near-record warmth

Another morning of wind chills in the teens and 20s is expected Wednesday across the Northern Plains, Midwest, Ohio Valley and Northeast.

More than 40 million people are feeling a brief winter flashback, with temperatures 10–20 degrees below average across parts of the Northeast, Midwest and even some parts of the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

Just when it seemed like spring was settling in, a fast-moving clipper bringing cold air from Canada is moving across the Great Lakes and into the Northeast Tuesday, expected to drop 1–3 inches of snow across Upstate New York and the Green and White Mountains of New England through the day.

A second, trailing clipper brought a shot of snow early Tuesday for parts of southern Iowa and Nebraska, with Winter Weather Advisories in effect through the morning rush.

Another morning of wind chills in the teens and 20s is expected Wednesday across the Northern Plains, Midwest, Ohio Valley and Northeast.

Light snow fell across parts of Upstate New York and New England, including Syracuse, New York, Monday.

Boston could see some flakes Tuesday, although measurable snow is not expected to accumulate.

This cold blast in April comes after a historic winter for many across the Northeast and Midwest; spanning cross-country storms and powerful blizzards.

From record-shattering totals to feet of snow that paralyzed the region, the relentless season has buried parts of the Northeast under repeated rounds of snowfall — some measuring in feet — leaving records shattered and communities digging out for days.

APRIL WEATHER OUTLOOK: SEVERE STORMS TARGET MILLIONS AS SPRING TEMPERATURE WARMUP FINALLY NEARS

While overall totals are expected to remain light through Tuesday, 1 to 3 inches of snow is possible across the interior Northeast, with slightly higher amounts near the Great Lakes and the higher terrain of the Adirondacks.

The FOX Forecast Center highlights that most of these areas typically see their last measurable snow by early-mid April.

HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER

Just days after near-record warmth over the weekend, temperatures are expected to remain 10 to 20 degrees below average from through Wednesday.

By Thursday, temperatures are expected to rebound, returning closer to seasonal averages.
