HAWAII – The residents of Hawaii can’t catch a break as a renewed storm threat of Invest 90E could bring a new threat to the Hawaiian Islands.
This comes as, just west of Hawaii, Lala returned to hurricane status before intensifying into a Category 4 storm overnight.
Since then, it has dropped to Category 3 strength.
WHAT IS A CATEGORY 3 HURRICANE?
In light of this, forecasters are monitoring the newly-developed Invest 90E as it moves over the Central Pacific, trailing behind Hurricane Lala.
The term "invest" is used every hurricane season in the Atlantic and the Eastern and Central Pacific basins, accompanied by a number from 90 to 99 and either the suffix "L," "E" or "C," respectively.

"Regardless of the exact center placement, Sunday’s biggest threat for the Big Island will center around heavy, tropical moisture wrapping around the eastern and northern sides of 90E, which will push directly into the windward terrain," the FOX Forecast Center said.
As a result, tropical downpours will create a flash flood threat, which could trigger mudslides in some steep areas of the islands.
