Heat alerts expand across the West as a record-breaking heat dome brings life-threatening temperatures to millions throughout the Four Corners and Desert Southwest. The heat dome that plagued the Central and Southern Plains retreated back to the West, bringing extreme triple-digit temperatures to the Four Corners and Desert Southwest.

Only 16 potential records are in jeopardy across the West after a very warm weekend. The warmest day was Saturday, where 65 new records were set or tied.

An area to watch on Monday will be Denver, Colorado, before an approaching cold front moves through the region.
Denver could be flirting with triple digits, which would potentially tie the record of 100 degrees set back in 1878.

As a weak cold front moves through, it will bring a slight drop in temperatures. However, highs will stay in the mid to upper 90s across much of the region, with the heat continuing through next weekend, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
Over the past week, Las Vegas and Phoenix were two of the hottest cities alongside Death Valley and other parts of Southern California, with temperatures reaching as high as 118 to 120 degrees.

With dry air remaining in place, chances of rain will stay limited, allowing the hot and dry conditions to persist.
A few daily records each day could still be challenged throughout the rest of the week, but the bulk of the record heat is temporarily in the rearview mirror, the FOX Forecast Center said.
Heat Alerts are in effect across the West through Sunday.

The heat — combined with smoke from Pacific Northwest wildfires — will make outdoor conditions miserable.
Remember to hydrate, not spend long periods of time outdoors without shade and water and take frequent breaks when outdoors.

Unfortunately, it's unlikely heat relief will come anytime soon. The Climate Prediction Center firmly keeps the region at higher chances of above-average temperatures through the first half of August.
