Nor'easter 'bombs' out after slamming Carolinas, Virginia with record snow, blizzard conditions
On Sunday morning, the FOX Forecast Center says the major nor'easter spinning off the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. has officially 'bombed out' - or rapidly intensified.
Major winter storm causes near-blizzard conditions in the Outer Banks
FOX Weather Storm Specialist Mike Seidel is seeing near-blizzard conditions in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, as a major storm blasts the Carolinas on Saturday.
The Carolinas and Virginia have been slammed by record snow as a major nor'easter charges north after clobbering the Southeast with dangerous cold, blustery winds and blizzard conditions this weekend.
A coastal low developed off the coast of the Carolinas and rapidly intensified as Saturday progressed, pulling moisture north, while helping to lock cold air in place.

On Sunday morning, the FOX Forecast Center says the major nor'easter spinning off the Atlantic Coast of the U.S. has officially 'bombed out' - or rapidly intensified.
According to surface analysis, the surface pressure was 1010 millibars on Saturday morning. Current analysis has the low down to 983 millibars. This meets the official definition of bombogenesis, which is rapid intensification of 24+ millibars in a 24-hour period.
Winter Weather Alerts stretch from the southern tip of Georgia all the way north into Maryland through Sunday.

States of Emergency remain in place in Georgia and North and South Carolina due to the nor'easter's powerful impacts.
Officials urged residents to stay home and off the roads this weekend.

"Fewer vehicles on the roads give GDOT crews the space they need to treat roadways safely and efficiently, helping keep everyone safer this weekend," Josh Lamb, director of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency, said.

Wind alerts stretch from North Carolina into Virginia, where gusts between 50-70 mph are possible.
"When you look at this in relation to a tropical system, this could, and let me emphasize could, be compared to a winter tropical storm," said FOX Weather Meteorologist Michael Estime.
The wind, combined with rapid snowfall and low visibility, have unleashed blizzard conditions for the coast, particularly along the Outer Banks.

Coastal flooding and erosion are also a concern with this system especially in the Outer Banks where vulnerable beachfront homes stand on stilts, battered by waves.
Winter storm impacts in the Northeast
As the storm moves northward, impacts will begin to stretch into the Northeast and New England on Sunday.
The FOX Forecast Center said to expect the storm to keep snow off the coast until reaching Massachusetts and southern New England.
This area will see snow, strong winds, and hazardous marine conditions.
