As the official start of summer draws closer, Americans in the Pacific Northwest are gearing up for a surge in hot temperatures this week while the East Coast cools off.
The Pacific Northwest is bracing for summer-like heat, with millions of people in the interior lowlands expected to experience temperatures as high as 100 degrees or more for the first time this year.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, a strong upper-level ridge of high pressure will build over the Pacific Northwest, combining with offshore winds to produce above-average temperatures for this time of year.

By the end of the weekend, temperatures will be 10 to 15 degrees above average, with the potential for record-breaking highs for both Sunday and Monday.
Popular cities such as Portland, Oregon, and Vancouver will be under an Extreme Heat Warning until Tuesday evening, according to the National Weather Service.

Millions of Americans are under heat alerts that extend from Northern California into Washington.
Nighttime temperatures will bring very little relief, with conditions expected to dip into the low 60s, while some areas will remain around 70 degrees.

Forecasters are predicting temperatures to dip down by mid-week, when a strong onshore marine push brings cool air back to the Pacific Northwest.
