MIAMI – Tropical Storm Fernand is refusing to give into its inevitable demise, and now forecasters say the system could restrengthen a bit before finally dissipating over the north Atlantic later this week.
The tropical storm had strengthened over the weekend and early this week before starting to weaken, but now the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said it could once again briefly get its act together and strengthen before it fizzles into nothingness.
As of the latest advisory from the NHC, maximum sustained winds within Tropical Storm Fernand had dropped to 40 mph with some higher gusts.
"Some slight restrengthening is possible by (Tuesday night) or early Wednesday, but Fernand is likely to become post-tropical by Wednesday night," the NHC said.
