Severe storms likely in Chicagoland, Midwest Monday

The threat of storms extends from eastern Montana into Wisconsin

A storm system moving through the northern part of the country has the potential to produce strong to severe storms on Monday from Dodge City, Kansas to Chicago and Detroit.

Storms have the potential to produce large hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes.

Severe storms are not unusual for this region during July.

The first few weeks of the month are typically the peak of severe weather season across the northern part of the country.

The month has been busy for severe weather in Montana, with more than 240 reports of hail, damaging wind gusts and tornadoes.

Monday

Strong to severe storms will be possible from the eastern Rockies to the Great Lakes.

The main threats from the storms will be hail and damaging winds.

Tuesday

The severe weather threat will shift east to the Northeast on Tuesday.

Thunderstorms will fire along a front during the afternoon hours and move eastward toward the coast. 

Strong upper-level winds and humidity will likely support storms with a damaging wind threat.
