Severe storms threaten to disrupt holiday weekend plans across the US
Labor Day weekend is just days away, but nasty storms could threaten to wreak havoc on outdoor plans and cause holiday travel headaches. Some areas could see flash flooding from heavy rainfall and monsoon storms.
The holiday weekend is here, and millions of Americans are bracing to enjoy the last bit of warm weather for Labor Day before fall's cooling effects begin.
As the holiday brings one of the last chances to enjoy the great outdoors with family, prediction markets at Kalshi are weighing the odds that rain will affect major cities this weekend.
Experts at Kalshi are predicting an 85% chance of rain to dampen outdoor plans for thousands of people in Miami, along with an 81% chance for Seattle.

It is also worth noting that Boston has a 67% chance of precipitation.
Other locations also have a substantial chance of wet weather, according to Kalshi.
Saturday weather threat
Starting Saturday, weather conditions will develop, especially in the Southeast, Four Corners and Southwest regions.
Tropical downpours will plague Florida as easterly winds push moisture from the Atlantic Ocean into the region, fueling severe storms.

The same weather will occur on the other side of the country in the Southwest, where a surge of tropical moisture is possible as Hurricane Marie tracks closer to the region.
"This threat will continue through much of the weekend, with cities such as Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, under a Level 1 out of 4 flash flood risk to kick off the weekend," the FOX Forecast Center said.

The Central U.S. will continue to see summer temperatures about 5 to 10 degrees above average, stretching from Minneapolis to Oklahoma City, according to the FOX Forecast Center.
Sunday weather threat
The FOX Forecast Center said the same weather will continue into Sunday, with monsoon storms likely to increase in activity across the Southwest and Intermountain West regions.
This pattern will likely bring cooler temperatures.

In the Southeast, the wet and nasty weather will continue, especially in the Sunshine State.

The Northeast will shift to drier weather and pleasant temperatures, while the Central and Southern Great Plains will also be warm.
Labor Day Monday
By the time the holiday rolls around, the weather will quiet down a bit, with lingering summer heat across the Central and Southern Plains; seasonal temperatures will settle across the Heartland, Great Lakes and Northeast.
This comes as a relief for people in the Northeast, as a few lingering showers may be present by Monday.

In the Southeast, unsettled weather will remain as summer thunderstorms continue as a cold front dips farther south, keeping moisture levels high and fueling the severe threat.

"As moisture continues to ride around the northern edge of the ridge of high pressure keeping the Central U.S. warm, storms will be possible across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest," the FOX Forecast Center said.
