Fast-moving storm brings first taste of winter weather to Northeast, New England

A majority of those alerts have been allowed to expire, with only a sliver of western New Hampshire and northwestern Maine still at risk of seeing some mixed precipitation through Thursday afternoon.

While it didn’t have a major impact, a fast-moving storm system delivered just enough winter weather in the form of snow, ice and freezing rain to slow morning commutes for those living and working in the Northeast and New England on Thursday.

Winter Weather Advisories had been posted for a large portion of northern New York, as well as in Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts and Maine, due to the slick conditions brought on by the storm.

Snow leads to slick roads, crashes in New Hampshire

It was mainly a snow event in the northern portion of the storm, which led to some tricky travel on roads and highways in New England.

New Hampshire State Police had been warning drivers to keep it slow on the roads because of the inclement weather.

Later Thursday morning, state police said on X, formerly Twitter, that between the hours of 5 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., they responded to 78 weather-related traffic incidents that included cars off the road, crashes and assisting drivers statewide.

No major injuries were reported in any of the crashes.

Snow coats the ground in Maine

A small portion of Maine remains under a Winter Weather Advisory until Thursday afternoon, but there weren’t any major impacts from the storm system.

A video shared with FOX Weather from Ogunquit showed a tranquil winter weather scene as snow was seen falling from the sky earlier in the morning.

Roads there remained wet, so travel wasn’t heavily impacted in that area.

Another video shared with FOX Weather showed a happy dog running outside and playing in the snow in the town of North Berwick, which is to the west of Kennebunk, Maine.
