One person was killed, and three others were injured in Fort Myers Beach, Florida, after lightning struck a group of beachgoers on Friday.

According to Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno, emergency crews responded to the 6500 block of Estero Boulevard, where it appeared that four people had been struck by lightning.
The Fort Myers Beach Fire District said that when crews arrived on scene, they found one individual unresponsive. A bystander had already begun CPR and was using an AED before emergency responders arrived.
Despite lifesaving efforts, the individual was pronounced dead at the scene. The other three individuals were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluation.

Emergency officials are now warning residents, visitors, and beachgoers to monitor weather conditions before heading outdoors. If lightning is observed in the area, officials urge people to stay out of the water, seek immediate shelter, and avoid tall or isolated objects that could pose a risk of injury.
Officials also recommend staying indoors for at least 30 minutes after hearing the last clap of thunder and staying away from windows and doors during storms. If an emergency occurs, call 911 immediately for medical assistance.

The incident comes as Fort Myers Beach experiences scattered thunderstorms during the Fourth of July holiday, bringing intense lightning strikes and gusty winds.
