Winter storm damages trees, power lines across Central US

Icy weather also leading to treacherous travel conditions

A winter storm moving across the Central U.S. on Thursday is again creating icy scenes across the region.

Sleet, freezing rain and snow have been reported from Texas northeast to Illinois, while mainly snow is being reported across the Northern Plains.

One of the places hardest hit by ice has been Arkansas. People there have been sharing images of snapped trees and downed power lines on social media.

In places like Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas, images and videos of crashes and treacherous roads are more common.

Driving is not being recommended in areas that have been hit hardest by the storm. Here are some websites you can use to track road conditions in the states being affected by the icy weather Thursday:

The storm is forecast to spread into the Midwest and eventually the Northeast before exiting the country by the weekend.
