See it: Dust storm creates apocalyptic red skies in Libya

Local emergency officials advised residents to be very cautious and not travel during these conditions.

TOBRUK, Libya— A local state of emergency was issued for the city of Tobruk, Libya, after a dust storm turned skies a bright, eerie red.

Video from Tobruk on Wednesday shows the world in a red hue as thick dust blocked the sun.

The Tobruk Municipal Guard Branch issued a state of emergency for Amahid east to Ain Ghazala west and to Al-Jaghboob south due to the weather conditions.

In the video, winds whipped and sirens could be heard in the background. 

As the camera panned around, cars and streets were barely visible due to the dust.

The entire scene appeared apocalyptic in nature, with streetlights barely doing anything to illuminate the area.

A group of people stood inside a doorway, wearing masks and hats, trying to protect themselves from the dust.

Local emergency officials said they were busy trying to prepare for any emergencies that could arise during the severe weather.
