Tropical Storm Fay keeps churning in Atlantic, but its shot at becoming a hurricane is fading

The Atlantic's next named storms has formed and it is Tropical Storm Fay. Fay is expected to ultimately fizzle out amid hostile conditions. FOX Weather Meteorologists Melanie Black and Michael Estime have the latest:

Tropical Storm Fay is beginning to track east-southeast as increasing wind shear affects the system.
The tropical storm is currently about 405 miles southwest of the Azores region in Portugal, exhibiting sustained winds of up to 65 mph, according to NOAA.

No coastal watches or warnings are currently in effect.

This comes as the last advisory shows the storm just under hurricane intensity. Still, time is running out to reach that strength because it is moving into a less favorable environment.
"As the day progresses on Monday, Fay is expected to weaken as it veers to the Southwest," the FOX Forecast Center said. "Fay is then expected to travel to the west-southwest over the coming days and continue to gradually weaken and dissipate by the end of the week."

If September ends without a hurricane, it would be the eighth time on record since the 1850s and only the second time since the start of the satellite era in 1966.
If the entire hurricane season goes without a hurricane, it would only be the third time on record.

The FOX Forecast Center said Fay is currently moving slowly northeast, but could weaken by Tuesday as increasing wind shear and drier air influence the storm's development.
The storm system is expected to become a post-tropical remnant low by Tuesday and eventually dissipate later this week.
