On Monday, the storm was just under hurricane intensity. Despite this, time is running out to reach such strength, as Fay is expected to become a post-tropical cyclone later today.
"Time has run out for Tropical Storm Fay to gain hurricane strength because it is beginning to move into a less favorable environment with more wind shear," said the FOX Forecast Center.

If September ends without a hurricane, it would be the eighth time on record since the 1850s and only the second time since the start of the satellite era in 1966.
If the entire hurricane season goes without a hurricane, it would only be the third time on record.
