NWS confirmed five tornadoes around Houston metro

Counties of southeastern Texas were put under a tornado watch

HOUSTON – National Weather Service (NWS) survey crews confirmed five tornadoes near Houston late Saturday. 

Crews confirmed tornadoes across:

  • Humble, Texas EF-1
  • Kingwood, Texas EF-1
  • Montgomery, Texas EF-0
  • Near Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (preliminary EF-0)
  • Near Dayton, Texas (preliminary EF-0)

So far, there are no reports of any injuries or deaths.

The National Weather Service asked the public for more pictures and video to finalize the strength of the airport and Dayton tornadoes. The tornado near the airport delayed several arriving and departing flights Saturday night.

Survey teams are still investigating damage in Liberty County to determine if was done by a tornado.

Severe thunderstorms triggered tornado warnings Saturday afternoon into early Sunday morning when a warm front moved across the I-10 region.

The threat for severe weather shifted eastward on Sunday with the Storm Prediction Center highlighting an area from eastern Texas to western Georgia at greatest risk for seeing an isolated severe storm.

An early morning possible tornado injured five people and damaged a mobile home.
