Icy conditions strand hundreds of vehicles on I-10 in Texas for hours

Cars and trucks are at a standstill near Kerrville

KERRVILLE, Texas – Traffic is slowly moving Friday afternoon on a stretch of Interstate 10 in Texas after hundreds of vehicles were stranded because of icy conditions on the road.

According to FOX 29, there were a few crashes near Kerrville on the westbound side of the freeway that blocked traffic for several hours, including a jackknifed tractor-trailer. An ice-covered hill also prevented vehicles from traveling in the area, according to FOX 29.

By Thursday afternoon, FOX 29 reported that traffic was moving again albeit slowly.

Officials at the Texas Department of Transportation said that conditions are still hazardous despite several deicing treatments. There also appeared to be an issue with some tractor-trailers being stuck on the road.

Temperatures in the area have crept above freezing but will drop back into the 20s after sunset.

TxDOT has reported icy roads across much of the northern and central parts of Texas, where snow and ice have fallen over the past couple of days.
