After peaking as a Category 2 hurricane in the Eastern Pacific last Wednesday, Fausto was downgraded from a tropical depression this Wednesday.

Ex-Fausto will disrupt the trade winds, allowing southeasterly winds to develop showers across parts of Maui and the Big Island, including the potential for localized downpours.

FOX Weather Senior Correspondent Robert Ray reports live from Maui as Tropical Storm Fausto, which peaked at Category 2 strength, is forecast to brush several of the Hawaiian Islands. Powerful swells and rough surf are forecast to pound the Aloha State on Wednesday, creating hazardous conditions along exposed coastlines even without a direct hit.
As the storm's remnants move out of the region, rough surf will develop along exposed east-facing shores, bringing waves between 12 and 15 feet high and strong currents.
