Tropical Depression Nine is forecast to strengthen into Hurricane Isaias and make a dangerous U.S. landfall, ending two long-standing hurricane droughts and placing 30 million people at risk for heavy rain, flooding and tropical storm impacts.
It has been more than 340 days since the Atlantic’s last hurricane, Melissa, and more than 720 days since Hurricane Milton made landfall in the U.S. in October 2024.
Now, by the weekend, Tropical Depression Nine is expected to become the Atlantic season’s first hurricane and bring an end to both droughts.
