More than 87 million Americans are under Heat Alerts Tuesday, as extreme heat brings triple-digit temps to the Central U.S. The heat dome is expected to continue to drive up temperatures for at least the next two weeks.
The strongest heat dome on the planet is currently centered over the Central U.S., fueling a dangerous and expansive heat wave that is expected to last through at least the first week of August.

Since Friday, dozens of record highs have already been broken throughout the Central and Southern Plains.

Triple-digit temperatures are spread across dozens of states, with dangerously warm overnight lows offering very little relief.
High temperatures of 95 to 105 degrees are forecast broadly across the region, with localized highs reaching 115 to 120 degrees in the Desert Southwest.

With humidity, maximum heat indices could top 115 degrees to 125 degrees across the region, the FOX Forecast Center said.

Further east, from the Southern Plains to Florida, temperatures may not reach the 100 degree threshold, but humidity will make it feel just as hot.

Dew points well into the 70s will severely limit the body's ability to cool itself through evaporating sweat, driving heat indices above 100 degrees.

The heat dome may weaken slightly toward the end of the week, but forecasts show it will dramatically strengthen and shift west over the Desert Southwest heading into the first weekend of August.
