Last gasp: Winter storm coats Northeast in ice, snow before exiting US

Slippery roads, crashes being reported across parts of the region

After traversing the U.S. for most of the week, a winter storm that has wrought havoc along its path brought its final chapter Friday with freezing rain, sleet and snow in the Northeast.

Some people who live along the coast woke up to a glaze of ice on trees and cars on Friday morning.

Farther inland, it was sleet piling up on streets and sidewalks making them tricky to navigate.

The interior of the Northeast and New England have received mostly snow, where several crashes have been reported.
