A stormy weather pattern is bringing some relief from the intense heat that has been baking the Central US. Daily thunderstorms and showers are expected to develop each afternoon beginning Thursday and lasting through the weekend, setting up a multiday flash flood threat that will move across the middle of the country. The bull's-eye of Thursday's flood risk will be across the parts of the Central Plains and Upper Midwest. Meanwhile, the most intense storms are expected across parts of central South Dakota and north-central Nebraska, where the Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 2 out of 5 risk of severe thunderstorms Thursday.

The Lollapalooza festival runs from Thursday to Sunday, with music groups starting at 12 p.m. and ending at 10 p.m. each day.

Prediction markets at Kalshi are expecting a 99% chance that rain totals will exceed 6 inches by the end of July, along with a 21% chance of exceeding 7 inches.
To start the festival on Thursday, visitors at Grant Park will luck out with mostly sunny skies and dry weather, but that will quickly shift on Friday, when there is a chance of rain and thunderstorms through the evening, with a 90% chance of precipitation.
This comes as some areas in the Midwest could see rainfall totals of over 3 inches, with a Level 2 out of 4 flash flood threat across portions of the region, including Chicago.
