Interior regions of New York and New England saw upwards of a foot of snow with isolated higher amounts (FOX Weather)
Snowfall across the Northeast and New England is beginning to taper off as a system moves offshore, leaving behind cold air and upwards of a foot of snow for residents to dig out of.
Winter Storm Warnings were in place for parts of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine, ahead of the heavy snow and ice.

The frozen precipitation is expected to linger over parts of Maine on Sunday, as the low-pressure system continues to move away.

Meteorologists warned travel could be problematic from the Adirondacks of New York into Vermont, New Hampshire and western Maine, where snow and ice accumulations were the heaviest.
The storm system did help usher in cooler air, but meteorologists say the below normal temperatures won't last for an extended period.
High pressure is expected to build into the region during the Christmas week, which will allow temperatures return to normal during the midweek time frame.
