Idalia still hanging on to tropical storm strength as it moves off East Coast
Tropical Storm Idalia remains a tropical storm with winds of 60 mph as the storm, which made landfall in Florida on Wednesday as a Category 3 hurricane, moves off the East Coast and back into the open water of the Atlantic Ocean.
The FOX Forecast Center is actively tracking Idalia, which made landfall Wednesday as an extremely dangerous Category 3 storm near Keaton Beach, Florida.
Idalia, the 10th named storm of the 2023 Atlantic hurricane season, rapidly intensified into a Category 4 hurricane early Wednesday morning before weakening just a tad in the hour before its 7:45 a.m. ET landfall. The storm dropped to tropical storm strength while over Georgia.
The FOX Forecast Center said Idalia was the strongest hurricane to strike the Big Bend area – especially near Cedar Key – in 125 years, dating back to an unnamed 1896 storm.
