Fast-moving wildfire forces evacuations in Texas Panhandle

Parts of Texas are in the midst of an extreme drought

STINNET, Texas – Several homes were evacuated on Friday afternoon due to a fast-moving wildfire that has burned around 200 acres in the Texas Panhandle.

The Carbon Camp Fire is near the town of Stinnet, which is about an hour north of Amarillo.

So far, there has been no word on what started the wildfire, but authorities reported at least half a dozen agencies are working to contain the flames.

The area was under a Fire Weather Warning on Friday because of dry, windy conditions.

Winds are expected to gust upwards of 70 mph through the evening and remain elevated on Saturday.

Parts of northern Texas are experiencing extreme drought levels because of a lack of precipitation over the last several months.
