Evacuations ordered after wildfire in Big Sur, California

As of Sunday evening, the fire burned more than 700 acres and was 35% contained.

MONTEREY COUNTY, Calif. -- Evacuations were issued after a wildfire started in Monterey County Friday evening.

The ‘Colorado Fire’ fire started in the Palo Colorado Canyon, located in the Big Sur region.

Mandatory evacuations were ordered for "All areas West of 3800 Palo Colorado Rd. to Highway 1 and south to Bixby Creek," deputies said.

The California Department of Transportation closed Highway 1 from near the entrance to Andrew Molera State Park in Big Sur to Rio Road in Carmel.

As of Sunday evening, the fire burned 700 acres and was only 35% contained.
