11 people hospitalized after duck boat tips over with tourists onboard in Boston

There were 31 people onboard, and 11 people were taken to nearby hospitals with what are believed to be minor injuries.

BOSTON, Mass. - Eleven people have been taken to the hospital after a duck boat experienced a mechanical issue and tipped over with dozens of people onboard in the Boston area on Saturday.

Massachusetts State Police said troopers responded to a boat ramp on Museum Way in Cambridge after hearing one of the duck boats was experiencing a mechanical issue.

The boat was in the process of being towed onto the boat ramp when something caused it to tip to one side, according to state police.

There were 31 people onboard, and 11 people were taken to nearby hospitals with what are believed to be minor injuries, troopers said.

None of the passengers wound up in the water, police told FOX News Digital. Everyone aboard the boat has been accounted for, local police said.

It's unknown what specific mechanical issue the boat experienced.

Boston is known for its popular Duck Tours, which provide a unique way to explore the capital city by land and water.

The tour travels along the Charles River, providing a historical and educational experience for tourists.

Boston Duck Tours is a popular tourist attraction that started in 1994 and has since expanded to include 28 duck tour boats that take hundreds of people out on rides daily.

The company told Fox News Digital that while being towed on its boat ramp, the vehicle rolled onto its side when the tow-rope broke.

"As a precaution, we have suspended operations for the remainder of the day," the company wrote in a statement. "We are working with Massachusetts State Police and the U.S. Coast Guard to review the incident."

The duck boats have been used in recent years to parade the region's numerous championship teams through Boston, including the New England Patriots, the Boston Red Sox, the Boston Celtics and the Boston Bruins in 2011, according to FOX News Digital.
