Storm Prediction Center meteorologist became first woman to issue Severe Thunderstorm Watch

Elizabeth Leitman, a meteorologist at NOAA's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch on Feb. 15, 2023, making her the first woman to issue one in the SPC's 60-plus-year history. "It verified. We had several severe thunderstorms in that watch, so that was good that my first watch actually verified," Leitman said in an interview with FOX Weather.
