Cross-country system swamps East Coast with flash flooding as storms cause major air travel headache
Southern New England and Downeast Maine will face another round of heavy rain through Saturday afternoon after storms caused flash flooding across parts of the East Coast on Friday in the final act of a powerful, week-long cross-country system that delivered devastating flooding across parts of the Southwest and the southern Appalachians. The storms also prompted ground delays and ground stops at major Northeast airports including, Newark International, LaGuardia, John F. Kennedy International and Boston Logan International. Hundreds of flights were canceled and more than 1,000 were delayed at major Northeast travel hubs, according to aviation tracking company Flightware.
