Alabama coast now built to withstand severe storms
Alabama's coastline experienced two Category 3 hurricanes exactly 18 years apart. Hurricane Ivan made landfall on Sept.16, 2004, and in 2020, Hurricane Sally took a very similar route. Both producing heavy rainfall, storm surge and damaging wind. As we enter the peak of Atlantic hurricane season, Alabama's coastal communities are better prepared to withstand the wrath of future storms. Ken Grimes, city administrator for Orange Beach, Alabama, discussed the lessons these communities have learned.
