Genevieve weakens while a super typhoon roars across the Pacific

After becoming the first Category 5 hurricane of the 2026 Eastern Pacific season, Hurricane Genevieve is gradually weakening over the open Pacific. Meanwhile, on the other side of the world's largest ocean, another powerful tropical cyclone is rapidly intensifying. Super Typhoon Dolphin is forecast to strengthen into an equivalent Category 5 storm with 180 mph winds as it tracks north of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
