According to the FOX Forecast Center, an outbreak of severe storms is likely across the Southern Plains beginning Friday afternoon. There will be two primary areas to watch for severe storm development. The first round of storms is expected to develop during the mid- to late afternoon near the surface low across Kansas and the Missouri Valley, with the primary threats being monster hail and tornadoes. Overnight, as the cold front pushes farther east-southeast, all severe hazards will be possible from Illinois southward through Oklahoma and northeastern Texas. A broader severe weather threat targets more than 63 million people Friday, spanning more than 1,500 miles from Texas to Michigan.
