Vance could intensify into a major hurricane, which would be the basin's 10th Category 3 or stronger storm this year. This is the first time a V-named storm has been named in the eastern Pacific since 2018. Meanwhile, monster Typhoon Champi still has sustained winds of 120 mph after tying Super Typhoon Sinlaku as the strongest storm to form in any basin this year. Champi will make a close approach to Taiwan before likely curving toward Japan.
