Heavy rain and slushy snow to slam the Plains as storm treks north

A storm system moving north out of the central Rockies and High Plains will bring rain to the Northern Plains as a strong area of high pressure over central and eastern Canada slows its progress. The stalled pattern could keep rain and even snow over parts of the western Dakotas and surrounding areas for an extended period.
