Major Hurricane Lowell poised for dramatic turn toward Hawaii, threatening dangerous impacts

Powerful Hurricane Lowell is forecast to turn sharply toward Hawaii, threatening dangerous surf, flooding, heavy rain and strong winds around Labor Day. Though Lowell has weakened from its peak intensity as a Category 5 storm, it's still a powerful Category 3 hurricane, hundreds of miles south of Honolulu. However, its forecast to take a hard turn to the north over the weekend, threating the state's western islands as well as Oahu.
