Saharan dust sweeps across the Atlantic just as hurricane season begins
The Atlantic hurricane season officially begins on Monday, and massive plumes of Saharan dust are moving across the Atlantic into the Caribbean and Gulf. While the dust has little direct impact unless it becomes highly concentrated, it can create hazy skies and produce vibrant sunrises and sunsets. Combined with cooler-than-average sea surface temperatures, these conditions could contribute to a below-normal hurricane season.
