What is icebreaking and why is it important?
When ice forms on major waterways in the wintertime or in year-round cold climates, it can seize up marine traffic, not allowing boats to pass through, and often even trapping them in ice. In order to free these boats, an icebreaker boat is used to help break up the ice surrounding the boat to allow them to move freely through the water.
Here's how this unique ice volcano forms in Upstate New York
A unique phenomenon appeared in an Upstate New York park as frigid temperatures consumed the Northern Tier of the U.S. and encased most of the region in snow and ice. Located in Letchworth State Park, an ice sculpture also informally known as an "ice volcano" has developed during these below-freezing temperature days.
