USO care packages to help US service members through cold of Eastern Europe

An American nonprofit group is making sure U.S. troops taking part in the response to the Russia-Ukraine conflict get the support they need to endure not only the demanding setting but also the harsh weather.

The United Service Organizations reports delivering more than 30,000 care packages this year with plans to do thousands more.

"It’s our duty to make sure they have the critical resources and support they need," Alan Reyes, Chief Operating Officer of the USO, said in a recent email to supporters.

With donations to the USO, volunteers are able to assemble care packages containing a variety of snacks, toiletries and other small items that are meant to support the troops during their deployment.

A spokesperson said because of the increased troop movements to Europe, the USO anticipates more than 230,000 packages will be needed.

The organization said because of the cold weather in Eastern Europe they have been providing blankets, beanies, hand warmers and even warm meals to soldiers.

HOW TO WATCH FOX WEATHER ON TV

Forecast models show temperatures will be above average for most Europe over the next couple days, before rain and a temporary cool down move in midweek.

The warmer than average weather means temperatures will be in the 50s and 60s where many U.S. troops are deployed.
