Hiker dies after being found unconscious on popular New Hampshire trail

HOLDERNESS, N.H. - A Massachusetts man was pronounced dead in New Hampshire on Saturday after authorities found him unconscious along a hiking trail.

Around 11:30 a.m., emergency crews responded to a call at West Rattlesnake Mountain in Holderness, New Hampshire, about an unconscious hiker.

Holderness Fire-Rescue, Center Harbor Fire-Rescue, Sandwich Fire Rescue, Plymouth Ambulance and New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers were dispatched to the scene.

About three-quarters of a mile from the trailhead, first responders found 64-year-old Richard Chateauneaf of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, where other hikers were administering CPR.

Despite efforts from bystanders and first responders, Chateauneaf was unable to be revived, according to emergency officials.

Officials said no further information is available at this time.
