FOX Weather Kickoff: Week 8 FOX NFL picks based on weather forecasts

SportsWeather has its own metrics system that compiles historical game-time weather data and meshes it against both NFL teams and player historical performance.

It's Week 8, so we've just about hit the halfway point in the NFL season, plus we get football on Halloween.

When it comes to time to pick games, we never know how much of a factor weather can or will play. Usually, teams are picked because we believe they have better players, but what about picking a team solely based on how they have historically performed in certain weather conditions?

Well, that’s what we do, thanks to SportsWeather.

SportsWeather has its own metrics system that compiles historical game-time weather data and meshes it against both NFL teams and player historical performance.

They have stats on all players in wind, rain, sleet, snow, heat and more. Factor in the data for every player on both sides plus also each team’s historical performance, and if key thresholds are met based on the weather as predicted for game time, a pick is issued.

SportsWeather.com season record: 15-7

So on Fridays throughout the season, we pick FOX NFL games based on how teams have historically performed in certain weather conditions using data from SportsWeather.

SportsWeather doesn’t compile data for games that are played in domes and all data is from the last 14 seasons.

Due to four of the six games on FOX this week being played inside dome stadiums, we'll only be picking two games for Week 8.

GAME 1: San Francisco 49ers (2-4) at Chicago Bears (3-4) - 1 p.m. Eastern on FOX

Both teams are looking to get back into the win column this week after coming off losses in Week 7. It's forecast to feel like 54 degrees in Chicago at game time. At that temperature, historically, the 49ers are 47-55-1 and the Bears are 34-37.

Winds are expected to be blowing at 12 mph and over the last 14 seasons, San Francisco stands at 18-23-1 while the Bears are 35-33 when winds are blowing at that speed. However, over the last three seasons, the 49ers have been better, holding a 6-3 record, and the Bears are one game under .500 at 8-9.

Precipitation is not expected to be a factor in this game. There's a 0% chance of precipitation on Sunday at game time. When that happens the Bears stand at 73-83 and the 49ers come in at 70-66-1.

PICK: SportsWeather.com gives the 49ers the weather edge and predicts them to defeat the Bears.

GAME 2: Washington Football Team (2-5) at Denver Broncos (3-4) - 4:25 p.m. Eastern on FOX

This is another game where both teams are looking to bounce back after a disappointing Week 7. There will be a minimal weather impact on this game as it's forecast to be 45 degrees with winds at 6 mph at game time in Denver.

In games played when the temperature was 45 degrees, both teams haven't faired too well. Washington is 14-32 and the Broncos are 15-25. When the winds are at 6 mph, Washington still seems to struggle, holding a record of 44-75-1, while the Broncos are 72-74.

There's a 0% chance of precipitation on Sunday at game time in this matchup as well. When that happens, the Broncos are 101-83 and Washington is 70-93-1

PICK: SportsWeather.com gives the Broncos the slight weather edge and predicts them to defeat Washington.
