YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. — A terrifying wildlife encounter has left a grandfather hospitalized after being charged by a bison and tossed feet into the air at Yellowstone National Park on Friday evening.

The horrifying incident was caught on camera by Mike MacLeod, a professional photographer who happened to be camping at the Bridge Bay Campground at the time.

His footage captured the exact moment the massive animal—which can weigh up to 2,000 pounds—unexpectedly charged.

While the National Park has yet to release a statement on the incident, local news outlets have identified the victim as 65-year-old Carl Isom-McDaniel of Washington state.

Isom-McDaniel was reportedly at the park with his grandson. At a safe distance, they both began taking pictures of the bison.

Video shows the pair walking away behind a cluster of trees as soon as they see the bison start to stand up.

Moments later, a white truck passes and the bison immediately begins charging toward the cluster of trees where the two were hiding.

The disturbing footage shows Isom-McDaniel desperately trying to escape, but the bison quickly catches up to him, hooking the man with its left horn and launching him what looks like roughly eight feet into the air.

MacLeod told reporters that he and several other bystanders immediately rushed toward the aggressive animal, shouting and hazing the bison until it finally backed away from the victim.
