Coastal flooding and erosion begin to plague North Carolina

Visible beach erosion and early stages of coastal flooding have begun along the coastline of Rodanthe, North Carolina,, as severe weather continues throughout this week.

America's first fall nor’easter is strengthening in the Atlantic Ocean, and millions along the East Coast have already faced days of coastal flooding, huge surf and vicious winds with the storm's worst impacts still to come. 

The Outer Banks in North Carolina has faced the brunt of the storm so far as destructive beach erosion has pounded the vulnerable coastline. 

Homes in Rodanthe, North Carolina are also threatened by coastal flooding, fueled by intense wind gusts and massive waves building up to potentially 15 feet, per the FOX Forecast Center.

By Friday, winds could reach as high as 50 mph along the southern New Jersey coast.

At Nags Head, North Carolina, red flag warnings are flying up and down the shoreline as the intensifying Nor’easter charges closer to the region.

Lashing winds along the coast of Nags Head, North Carolina

Lashing winds and nasty weather are in store for thousands of residents along the coast of Nags Head, North Carolina, as the impacts from the incoming Nor'easter are expected all week long.

Crews with the Department of Transportation in North Carolina are trying to establish natural coastal resilience in any way they can to prevent these huge swells from barging further onto land.

Nor’easter threatens East Coast with coastal flooding and severe erosion

A nor’easter is developing along the Mid-Atlantic, and is expected to bring gusty winds, rain, coastal flooding and severe beach erosion. FOX Weather Senior Correspondent Robert Ray is live in Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina, with the latest on how residents are preparing their coast for the upcoming storm.

Unfortunately, conditions will only worsen as the storm strengthens and will unleash prolonged coastal flooding and heavy rain up and down the East Coast.

Later on Sunday, the rain will begin to fizzle away, but water levels will remain high, keeping moderate flooding in place through Monday morning.
