BRISBANE, Australia -- Time-lapse video shows just how high rivers rose during devastating flooding that swept across parts of Queensland and New South Wales in Australia late last month.
In just six hours, starting on the morning of Saturday, Feb. 25, floodwaters rise several feet, submerging the Glenore Bridge. It takes well into the following Wednesday morning for waters to recede close to their original levels.

The time-lapse video shows other nearby areas quickly submerged by the rush of floodwaters.
Intense rainfall over several days prompted multiple major flooding events in Queensland and northern New South Wales.
Significant flooding also occurred in the state’s capital Brisbane, which saw a record 31 inches of rain in six days, surpassing the old 1974 record by six inches, according to Australia's Bureau of Meteorology. The city averages about 47 inches of rain per year.
According to Storyful, the Insurance Council of Australia said insurers had received 107,844 claims relating to the floods in Queensland and New South Wales worth an estimated $1.62 billion as of March 9.
