3 weak tornadoes touch down near Chicago on Saturday

No one was injured as three tornadoes rolled through the Chicago suburbs around 6 a.m. Saturday morning.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Three weak tornadoes caused minor damage as they swirled through the Chicago suburbs early Saturday morning.

The first tornado touched down at 5:40 a.m. in Naperville, carving a path of 4.5 miles through town and damaging the White Eagle Golf Club, according to the National Weather Service office in Chicago.  The twister lasted six minutes before dissipating.

The storm survey team with the National Weather Service in Chicago found mostly tree limb damage, though a fast food restaurant lost about 20% of its roof, the survey team said.

Forecasters estimated the peak wind speeds at 85 mph, giving the tornado an EF-0 rating on the Enhanced Fujita Scale.

Six minutes later, a new tornado touched down in southern Romeoville, then entered Crest Hill and northern Joliet over a more-than-four-mile track before it dissipated.  NWS storm survey teams estimated that tornado had peak winds of 70 mph, also giving an EF-0 rating.

And yet another seven minutes later, another weak tornado landed in Manhattan, Illinois, and only lasted a minute over about 0.7 miles before it weakened. The NWS storm survey team estimated that a tornado with a peak wind of 75 mph gave its third EF-0 rating of the day.

No one was injured in any of the twisters, according to the National Weather Service. Damage estimates were not available.
