See it: SpaceX Falcon 9 launch dazzles millions along the East Coast as rare 'space jellyfish' illuminates sky

FOX Weather viewers from Michigan to Florida caught the rocket launch, with the space jellyfish witnessed in Florida, Georgia and South Carolina, at least.

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla.–Tuesday morning, SpaceX's Falcon 9 rocket launched from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on a mission to the International Space Station.

As it launched, viewers on the East Coast got to witness the rocket flying through the air, and for some lucky people in the Southeast, a "space jellyfish" dazzled the sky following the launch.

The blueish-white or iridescent-colored blob resembles a jellyfish, hence its name.

HOW THE 'SPACE JELLYFISH' PHENOMENON LIGHTS UP THE NIGHT SKY AND WHY IT HAPPENS

This happens particularly during a Falcon 9 rocket launch, and it's because the rocket's engines expel water vapor and carbon dioxide, according to Space.com.

As the rocket climbs higher into the sky, the temperature drops and water vapor freezes quickly, forming ice crystals that trail behind the rocket.
