Plumes of volcanic gas can be seen venting out of Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano as it nears its 50th episode. Scientists predict this new eruptive activity will begin sometime between June 25 and June 27.
HAWAIʻI VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK, Hawaii – Hawaii’s Kīlauea volcano is firing up for its 50th episode of lava fountaining.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), this new eruptive activity is predicted to begin sometime between June 25 and June 27, with Friday, June 26 identified as the most likely day.

The USGS shared a glimpse into Kīlauea's eruptive vents on June 24, revealing a flaming south vent emitting gas alongside the north vent as plumes tower into the sky.

A stunning rainbow was even captured accompanying the venting gas.

"Continuous strong glow was visible on webcams from both vents in Halemaʻumaʻu overnight. The south vent continued to produce large flames caused by the burning of gas within the top of the conduit," the USGS stated on X.

The agency also noted that magma is close to the surface and was visible within the north vent during an overflight on June 24.
