SANTA FE, N.M. — A high-horsepower chase unfolded over the weekend just before the Desfile de la Gente parade in Santa Fe — no pun intended.
On Sunday, a horse set to trot the parade route broke free from the staging area, sparking a multi-team rescue scramble just before kickoff.

It ultimately took Santa Fe Police motorists, bicycle officers, animal services, UAS drone operators, and a few local cowboys to safely corral the animal, the Santa Fe Police Department said.

Body camera and drone footage released by authorities captured the wild pursuit in its entirety.
Video shows motorcycle officers trailing and surrounding the galloping horse in an effort to box him in along the roadway.

At one point, bicycle officers closed in on the horse near a building, but the animal managed to evade them and bolt.

The pursuit continued down Canyon Road, where responders finally managed to herd the horse into an open driveway-like area.
As the horse turned back toward the exit, officers raised their arms to block him from escaping.

After a little bit, a local cowboy stepped in to rope and secure the horse as officers clapped.
