Three people were recovered from the water, officials said. Daniel Zhengyu Qin, 35, of San Jose, California, later died from his injuries despite extensive life-saving efforts.
The two other boaters were treated at the scene and transported to an area hospital for urgent medical care.

A coalition of first responders rushed to the California landmark, with multiple marine and land units from several agencies responding to assist the boaters and provide medical aid, including the U.S. Coast Guard Station Golden Gate, Southern Marin Fire Protection District fireboat Liberty, San Francisco Police Department Marine Unit, Sausalito Fire Department and Marin County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit Rescue-1.
The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation. A forensic postmortem examination, including routine toxicology testing, is scheduled for early next week.
