Magnitude 3.5 earthquake jolts southern Illinois, felt by hundreds across multiple states

So far, the USGS says hundreds of people have reported feeling shaking across a wide stretch as far west as St. Louis, as north as Effingham, as south as Evansville and as east as Louisville.

WEST SALEM, Ill.– Residents across southern Illinois were rattled Monday morning after a magnitude 3.5 earthquake sent light shaking across four states.

The U.S. Geological Survey said that the earthquake struck at 2:05 CDT (7:05 UTC) about 4 miles northeast from West Salem, Illinois at a depth of about 12 miles.
