Thunderstorms fire up later Friday for southern Plains
Blame it on El Niño: the South will be at risk for flooding again this weekend. In what appears to be a typical El Niño weather pattern, the subtropical branch of the jet stream (the same one responsible for the atmospheric river in California) will dive south over the Southeast through this weekend, helping spin up a storm system that is forecast to dump rain on the region.
