Mavericks Beach in California is attracting surfers near and far as the area enters peak season for big waves. Wind strength, duration and surface area are all factors in how big or small a wave will be. El Nino tends to bring bigger and stronger waves than average. Predicting when and where the waves will be the best is critical, something Kevin Wallis, Surfline’s director of forecasting, knows all too well.
