Researchers track down supercells to study hail

Each spring, the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety Research Center deploys the only active field research team dedicated to study hailstorms. The program's goals are to provide data to guide and improve laboratory hail testing, to map hail swaths to help verify and improve radar-based hail detection, to determine the environmental conditions that influence hail strength, among many other things.
